Digital Artistry and Remixing

Remixing mixed media is something that is always on my mind. As a freelance photographer, I follow a lot of people on Instagram who are known as digital artists. Digital artists use a variety of different stock images to create a unique piece of art that is remixed in their own creative way. I think this idea is similar to remixing music. For example, EDM music producers create music by mixing together different samples and soundbites to create something original. I feel that digital artists are some of the most creative people on the planet because they have to envision a place that does not actually exist in real life. They look for a place that will stand out from ordinary pictures by combining ten to twenty different photographs, and pulling the most interesting subjects into one cohesive image.

Images can be used in advertising to create marketing or visual representations. They use programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and draw pads. Digital artists also own the rights to their images as long as they are using different stock images or images that are labeled for reuse. My favorite digital artist is from Finland, and his work can be seen through his personal Instagram. His work inspired me as a photographer and artist because his work is just so unique and incredible. I feel that every image tells a completely different story. These works typically take anywhere from four to six hours each, which make them such a compelling thing to present. His target audience is so much wider than a normal photographer. He is a self-taught artist, and he has learned all of these editing skills over the past year. it shows that if someone is dedicated enough to truly perfecting their craft that anything is possible. Recently, his brother gained interest from his work. He Instagram can be seen here. I hope to continue learning more about digital artists!
